In criminal cases, why do I need an attorney?

My primary practice is criminal defense. People charged with both felonies and misdemeanors, especially those with misdemeanors, call me in frustration, asking why they need an attorney.

I could go on and on about the reasons why you should hire an attorney but specifically you need to protect your constitutional rights, to assist you in making an informed decision, to possibly save you money in the long run and to protect yourself from missing important deadlines.

For instance, in Oklahoma you must request a hearing within 15 days of your DUI, DWI or APC in order to preserve your right to a hearing to keep your license.
